Camphill Mearns Developments

The biggest project that Camphill Mearns has taken on has been to fund the building of a new house, Peesie's Knapp. The new house is a 6-bedroom wooden kit house and has been assembled by members and friends of the community under the able supervision and direction of John Taylor, who did most of the work. It has high energy-saving specifications, a ground-source heat pump system and a reed bed sewage system.

The house has been fully occupied since October 2010. One of the residents from Milltown House moved in to become a tenant under the Supported Living arrangements and was joined by a new tenant. There is also an independent flat attached to the house.
The project was made possible through a loan from the Camphill Foundation and the proceeds of a fund-raising appeal made on our behalf by the Camphill Family. The project is an expression of one of the central aims of Camphill Mearns, which is to ensure the success and sustainability of Milltown Community into the future.

Now Camphill Mearns is funding the building of an extension onto Milltown House, which, together with the refurbishment of exisiting rooms, will provide two single en-suite bedrooms and a new office. We have been successful in raising funds from charitable trusts for this project and Camphill Mearns will provide the remainder of the funding.

The directors and friends of Camphill Mearns have a list of improvements to their property which they wish to work through to the benefit of Milltown Community. They also have plenty of plans for the future - so watch this space for updates.

Work on the new house extension is now underway and below are a few photographs taken of the goundworks
